This topic covers an issue that many Christians these days probably don’t spend much time thinking about. The subject is Creation vs. Evolution and whether it really matters on which side of the issue the Christian falls. The sentiments expressed recently in one of our local newspapers reflects the thinking of a vast number of Christians: “Evolutionary theory is, in itself, a threat neither to a Christian’s faith nor to their God.”
On the contrary, it is our position that whether one believes in evolution or creation is quite important. Why? Because evolution makes very crucial statements about God.
Evolution teaches that human beings are just bags of chemicals resulting from a series of random biological changes. Those trusting in the theory of evolution rather than the creation account in Genesis necessarily believe there was no Garden of Eden, no Adam, no Fall, no resulting curse, and therefore no need for a Savior.
Evolution teaches there is no God as described in the Bible to whom mankind is accountable. The only guide of behavior is the survival of the fittest regardless of the consequences the struggle has on others.
The idea of a “theistic evolution” is really an oxymoron because it is just as much at odds with the Genesis account as the Darwinian theory.
Genesis’ account of creation teaches that God is sovereign over the universe and that all mankind is accountable to Him. Those trusting in creation believe God is their Creator and has authority over their lives. They understand He created them for a purpose, and they view others as unique and valuable creations of God.
Is a teaching that rejects the Bible’s account about the origin and destiny of this universe, as well as our dreadfully sinful nature, a threat to Christians? As people who believe in the inerrancy and supremacy of Scripture, we have to defend God’s Word and yell out “Yes!”
As believers, we need to approach this debate humbly; however, that doesn’t mean we must amalgamate two diametrically opposing views. Clearly, we don’t want to needlessly offend people. But when the topic comes up — as surely it will from time to time — our Christian testimony is increased when we humbly embrace the privilege of faithfully proclaiming the message of creation and salvation supported by the entirety of Scripture.
Where do you stand on evolution? Have you had the privilige of defending the Bible’s creation account? Let us know.
To God Be The Glory!
